My final for advanced performing arts :)
We had to go to our school’s art show and pick of a piece of artwork and do whatever kind of creative project. I chose a drawing of a marine and I wrote this:
Nothing but desert for miles and miles
Convincing yourself this is worth while
Sounds of bombs and the soldiers’ hearts racing
The Holy Trinity your fingers always tracing
Nightmare after nightmare, never a good night’s rest
The heavy heart of fallen soldiers suffocating your chest
For you’ve seen more than anybody should
All because Uncle Sam told you it was in the name of something good
Toss and turn, the soldiers’ eyes turn into stone
The thoughts keeping them alive are the thoughts of home
